Genuine 1952 Harry Bertoia Diamond 421 Chair and Ottoman Black Naugahyde leather
Original 1952 Harry Bertoia Diamond 421 Chair and Ottoman covered in Black Naugahyde leather on Black powder-coated frame. This classic mid-century modern chair is from the 1960s and comes with the original Kvadrat fabric covers which are worn after a few decades of use (see pictures), they are still available if you desire. The frame is in great condition haven been loved by the elderly couple they came from. The chair and ottoman have been professionally re-upholstered with covers made of Black Naugahyde leather front, high density foam and a Black-Brown grid fabric on the back. This is consistent with the high-end editions from the 1950s as with limited exposure to the elements the black powder coated frame and Naugahyde leather was an option provided for outdoor use to increase versatility. Italian artist and furniture designer, Harry Bertoia, was thirty-seven years old when he designed the patented Diamond chair for Knoll in 1952. An unusually beautiful piece of furniture, it was strong yet delicate in appearance, and an immediate commercial success in spite of being made almost entirely by hand. With the Diamond chair, Bertoia created an icon of modern design and introduced a new material, industrial wire mesh to the world of furniture design. Chair – Width: 85cm, Height: 76cm, Depth: 72cm.
